Plant of the Month – May 2019

Mr. D has again picked two plants for us… we should change the name of these posts to ‘Plants of the Month’…

Ceanothus ‘Californian Lilac’

Californian Lilac are renowned for their prolific flowering in spring. The flowers appear in clusters of panicles and are blue and fragrant. Ceanothus tolerate sun or part shade in any reasonable well drained soil. With an ultimate height and spread of between 1.5 and 2.5 meters reached in about 2 to 5 years.

The Rhododendron is an evergreen decorative plant with attractive flower buds. Thanks to it natural resistance and easy care characteristics, it is suited to any place in the garden. These shrubs have a maximum height and spread of 1 to 1.5 meters over a period of 10 to 20 years; but some species are know to grow to over 30m over this time!
