Quite simply, our passion is plants. Our family-run business began 70 years ago, stemming from a love of all things gardening. Now, the business has grown in knowledge and products, meaning we can offer you a better service than we ever have before. We even grow an exciting range of plants with our own green fingers that you can buy!
Our ethos is simple – we want our customers to have a relaxing shopping experience with everything they need at their fingertips. That’s why our Quintrell Downs team has a thorough knowledge of all our products, so that you’ll be able to choose the best products to help your garden thrive.
Our history began in 1948 when Wilfrid Curgenven bought the land in Quintrell Downs that Newquay Garden Centre stands on today. Although garden centres wouldn’t rise in popularity until later in the century, Wilfrid utilised the land as a market garden where he’d grow vegetables for local Cornish customers and those passing through.
His reputation soon grew with many revering him for quality and range of produce and in the 1960’s he decided to expand. The growth began slowly with his first greenhouses and polytunnels where he’d grow a host of beautiful fuchsias, geraniums, and bedding plants in addition to his already successful market garden.
The business evolved further in 1989 when Wilfrid’s family joined. The developments were more extensive and included complete renovations, more greenhouses, and a number of new product ranges such as pet care, gifts and homewares, and outdoor furniture. Now Newquay Garden Centre houses a huge range of diverse products, meaning whether you’re looking to improve your garden, need some new outdoor wear from reputable brands, or just want to buy a special present and card, you can find all of it under one roof.
